Tiger Teams enhances leadership and team cohesion

Background:

Greystar is a leading, fully integrated global real estate company offering expertise in property management, investment management, development, and construction services in institutional-quality rental housing, logistics, and life sciences sectors. Greystar has offices throughout North America, Europe, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Matthew Crichton-Brown is Greystar’s International Managing Director of Development.

The Situation:

As the organisation continued its global expansion with offices in the UK, Europe, Australia, China, and South America, it wanted to maintain its cohesive leadership and effective communication.

With many colleagues working remotely, the leadership team recognised that they required a more focused and tangible approach to continue a unified vision for the future of the organisation.

Offsite leadership events had previously taken place in conference venues but the leadership team needed something different: a team-building programme with external facilitation that would focus on connecting leaders, sharing challenges and building a shared roadmap for the organisation.

The Solution:

Understanding the need for an unbiased and effective approach to maintaining cohesion, Matthew Crichton-Brown contacted Tiger Teams. Leaders from each country were invited to travel to the Lake District for 3.5 days of focused group activities, strategy development and team building.

From the beginning, the leaders were encouraged to answer fundamental questions: ‘What’s my role?’ ‘What am I accountable for?’ ‘What are we all here to do?’ Working in small groups, Tiger Teams facilitated the leaders to understand the elements of a high performance team and to discuss, debate and evaluate difficult subjects. , such as the different personalities within the group and how to get the best out of people.

“It’s not a setting where you would normally conduct business. It gives you clarity, space and time to think. You start to see new, very valuable attributes of the people you work with and that was immensely positive.”

Matthew Crichton-Brown, MD International Development

Tiger Teams continued to facilitate the strategy development through follow-up consultancy sessions, solidifying the actions agreed upon during the event.

The Impact:

The event had a profound impact on the team, delivering both immediate and longer-term benefits:

Enhanced team cohesion – leaders reported an immediate positive impact on team energy and a sense of connection. They got a deeper understanding of each other’s roles and challenges, promoting a more collaborative environment.

Positive feedback – descriptors about the event were overwhelmingly positive, such as, “amazing,” “inspiring,” “insightful” and “unifying.” The event was praised for its ability to foster open communication and sense of camaraderie within the group.

Achievement of goals – leaders left the event with a clear sense of purpose, clarity, and focus having successfully developed personal action plans, shared vision and goals, and initiatives to drive the business forward.

• Increased efficiency and retention – leaders felt empowered and motivated, resulting in optimised performance and a stronger commitment to the organisation.

Follow-up sessions – the group valued the follow-up sessions with Tiger Teams, as a means to sustain the momentum of agreed actions.

“The event gave us a foundation for ongoing collaboration and growth that we can lift and shift back into the business. In just a few days, the team was able to fast-track the identification and alignment of their goals to build upon their existing resilience and high performance across our international platform.”
